The Foundation for Cultural Inventory (SCI) conducts a lot of projects. Some small, some large. These projects can take years to finish and involve a lot of people, time, and money. We would like to be transparant about the process and the investments of funds. Here you can find some examples of how a project exactly works. If you have further questions about the way our projects are funded, please contact us.

Inventory of Netherlandish art in the former Soviet Museums

In order to get an insight into the possibilities and difficulties resulting from such a project, the SCI executed a pilot inventory in a few museums, selected in consultation with Prof. Sadkov (curator of the Pushkin Museum). Because the SCI regularly had to be in the former Soviet Union for other projects, these trips could easily be combined with visits to one of the selected museums. Within this framework the museums in Nizhny Novgorod, Smolensk and Kazan, as well as the country estates of Ostankino, Kuskovo and Arkhangelskoye in the region of Moscow were visited in 2001 and 2002.

As far as possible, all the paintings and drawings, both on show as well as in the depots, were studied and digitally photographed. The museums were asked to provide the SCI with black-and-white photographs of all the works. The results have been very fruitful.
