Art Museum Riga Bourse

Art Museum Riga Bourse was founded in 1941, but its beginnings date back to 1773. It was then that the city of Riga acquired the collection of physician and collector Nikolaus Himsel. The most significant part of this collection formed the basis of the Riga City Art Gallery established in 1869. When the City Art Museum was built in 1905, the best works of foreign artists became part of its collection. Since 1920 the works have been housed in one of Riga’s oldest buildings, the 14th century Riga Castle.
